A guide to your Pet Photo Session
What to Expect During Your Pet Photography Session
Let’s make it fun, relaxed and all about your pet’s unique personality!
Thanks so much for booking with Snappy Pet Photography — I can’t wait to meet you and your furry friend! Whether we’re heading to the beach, your local park, or jumping in the water for a splashy session, I want to make sure everything runs smoothly and we capture the best version of your pet.
Here’s a little guide to help you prepare and know what to expect on the day:
🐾 A Little Walk Before the Shoot
If your dog is full of energy, a short walk before the session can help take the edge off. We don’t want them worn out — just calm enough to focus (a little bit!). We still want to see their spark and personality come through in the photos.
🧼 Looking Their Best
A quick brush before the session can make a big difference. Of course, as they explore, roll, and maybe even swim, they’ll get a little scruffy — but that’s part of the fun and what makes your pet them.
Water-loving pup? We’ll save the splashy water shots for the end of the session so your dog looks their best for the dry-land portraits.
👨👩👧👦 Including the Humans
If you and your family are jumping in for a few photos (which I highly encourage!), make sure you’re dressed in something you feel comfortable and confident in — and don’t forget to brush your hair too! Neutral tones work great and help keep the focus on your pet.
🐕 Collars & Harnesses
If your dog normally wears a harness, we can absolutely use it — especially if that’s what they’re most comfortable in. That said, a simple collar often looks a little neater in photos. If you’re happy for us to swap to a collar just for the shoot, it can help keep the focus on your dog’s expressions.
🦴 Treats & Toys
Bring along your pup’s favourite treats or toy — whichever motivates them most. These are great for getting their attention and adding some fun moments to the session.
🐶 Leads Are Totally Fine
If your dog needs to stay on-lead, that’s no problem at all. In most cases, I can remove the leash during editing so your photos still feel natural and free.
🌊 In-Water Sessions
If we’re jumping in the water for those one-of-a-kind swimming shots, we’ll do these last. I’ll need around 15 minutes to get into gear, especially in cooler months. Every dog reacts a little differently to me being in the water with them — it’s always a fun experience, and part of what makes those images so unique!
⏰ Timing
Most sessions run for about 1 to 2 hours, sometimes a little more depending on location and whether we’re doing in-water shots. I work at your pet’s pace, so flexibility is always appreciated.
🖼 After Your Session
I’ll carefully select and edit the best images from our session and create an online gallery for you to view — typically 20–30 final images. This will be ready within 7 days, but I aim to get it to you even sooner if possible.
🛍 Choosing Your Images & Products
Once you’ve had a chance to browse your gallery, I’m here to help you decide how best to display your images. You’ll find some packages listed on my website, but I’m always happy to create something custom that fits your style and space.
❓ Questions?
Don’t hesitate to reach out any time before the session. I’m always up for a chat about your pet or to answer any questions you may have!
See You Soon!
I can’t wait to capture some amazing memories of your pet doing what they love most. Whether that’s running wild on the beach, splashing in the water, or just chilling by your side — we’ll make it a session to remember.
Cheers,
Jeff
